Organize Your Life, Not Your Stuff

Autumn Decorating

It is Autumn! I love this time of year. Beautiful trees, crisp air, pumpkin picking, sweater wearing, bonfires, crackling fires in fireplaces, and decorating! I am not an expert decorator, but I do like to decorate for every season and holiday. I can't wait for the first day of every season so I can start decorating. I'm glad I live here because we get to experience all of the seasons. I don't think I have a favorite season. I love all of them. And we get to enjoy just the right amount of time for each! Here are a few ideas I have for decorating for the fall.

1.Table centerpiece: Pumpkins, falls flowers, candles, table runner or place mats. There is a pic of mine above. Not   spectacular, but I used what I had. And Luke has already broken one of my pumpkins salt/pepper shakers!
2.Place small pumpkins and gourds around the house. On bookshelves, coffee tables, end tables, bathrooms, night stands, even on the kids dressers.
3.Gather all vases, bottles, jugs, mason jars, creamer. Put branches of beautifully colored leaves in them. In smaller ones you can put a single leaf.
4.Scarecrow family(my favorite!!) Get a few hay bales or straw to put in your yard or near the road. Place a scarecrow for each member of the family on the bales. 2 big ones for mom and dad, and then little ones for each child.
5.Pumpkins and Mums on the front porch. If you have steps place mums on every step or every other step. Place small and larger pumpkins all around.
6.Flower beds: Plant fall colored pansies. They will last throughout the winter and come back in the spring. Think of colors that will look good from now until spring.
7.Front door: Place a large wreath of pine cones and leaves. Southern Living has a beautiful bucket that you can place fake or real flowers. I found mine cheap on ebay, and I have it on my front porch gate.
8.Backyard: Place pumpkins and mums all around. Hang a beautiful branch with colorful leaves on the back porch light. Hang small patio lights for the crisp party evenings.
9.Make a bonfire area in your backyard. You can use a metal firepit. Or you could use a fire ring on the ground. We have decorative bricks around ours. This is a great way to spend an evening with friends and family around the fire, roasting marshmallows, hotdogs, etc...
10.Candles: I LOVE candles! I can't have enough! I put candles everywhere in my house. I love the smells. Purchase fall smells. Place them in decorative fall candle holders. Carve the middle out of pumpkins and gourds and place votive or tealights. With a circular drill, drill holes in a large log. Place votives or tealights. That's a great centerpiece for your outside table.
