Resurrection Eggs

Posted by Holly Nelson on Thursday, April 1, 2010, In : Holiday Ideas
This is an important part of Easter in our home. These are simple eggs filled with tiny items that describe what Jesus did for us. It is so important for our children to know the real meaning of Easter: it's not bunnies, cute chicks, and candy-filled eggs.

This is what I purchased at the Christian Bookstore. But, you can make you own by letting your child paint an empty egg carton and collecting colored plastic eggs and items.

On the inside, labels of the egg color and what is inside the egg. ...

He and a few friends are going to play laser tag, and come home for pizza and apple pie. He doesn't like cake, so I'm making his favorite- apple pie!

Saturday night we are taking all the boys to Shelby Farms here in Memphis. They have the whole park decorated with Christmas lights. I heard this year is fantastic. It's the first year back many y...

Nativity Treasure Hunt

Posted by Holly Nelson on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, In : Holiday Ideas
This idea was taken from the An Advent of Ideas from Christmas Sharing, Product Concept , Inc.

"We saw a star in the East and have come to worship him." Matthew 2:2

There has often been confusion over these three men who came to visit Jesus. Were they Kings? Magi? Did they visit Jesus on the night he was born or when he was a toddler. What about the strange gifts they brought? Such questions make for good family conversations.

Read Matthew 2:1-12 to learn about the story of the "wise men" who t...

Luke 2 & the Nativity Scene

Posted by Holly Nelson on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, In : Holiday Ideas

Today is very simple. We are going to lay the Bible, open to Luke 2, beside the Nativity Scene. It is a tradition that my husband reads Luke 2 on Christmas Eve. So, either my oldest son or I will read Luke 2 today. We are also going to watch Christmas movies tonight. I suggest the Nativity Story.

Oh, do you see one of the wise men?  He lost his head. He wasn't very wise last year and let my youngest play with him. I'll be super-glueing it today in case you were worried for him.

Today the kids and I will start our Jesus Tree. It is also known as the Jesse Tree. Many years ago a bible study teacher invited me and a bunch of girls to her house to talk about the Jesus Tree. At that time I had never heard of it, but now I can't even imagine a Christmas without it.
Jesus has many names in the Bible. If you study the Bible you will see He is in every book. To start your tree, I suggest
