Organize Your Life, Not Your Stuff

Dec 3- Start Jesus Tree

Posted by Holly Nelson on Thursday, December 3, 2009 Under: Holiday Ideas
Today the kids and I will start our Jesus Tree. It is also known as the Jesse Tree. Many years ago a bible study teacher invited me and a bunch of girls to her house to talk about the Jesus Tree. At that time I had never heard of it, but now I can't even imagine a Christmas without it.
Jesus has many names in the Bible. If you study the Bible you will see He is in every book. To start your tree, I suggest
Adornaments(go here to buy it!) from Family Life.(This link will take you to their Christmas shop) It is a set of 12 ornaments with the name of Christ, the bible verse, and story to go with it. For these now, I have the boys take turns the 12 days leading up to Christmas to read each one and they choose where to put on the tree. Or if you are starting with these you can do them all at once with a "story time" of hot cocoa or hot apple cider and Christmas treats.

Every year that I make salt dough or cinnamon-applesauce ornaments, I make a few for the Jesus Tree.
Here are a few of my ornaments the kids have help me make:

He is the bright and morning star. Revelation 22:16

The Sacrifice. Hebrew 9:26

The Resurrection and the Life.  John 11:25

Or anytime you are out shopping, anytime of year, look for things that would represent Christ. You can be creative and take an ordinary object, tie or glue a ribbon on it, and put it on the tree.
Please visit the Christmas page to see more ideas for the Jesus Tree. There will be a list of the Name of Christ, alphabetically. I suggest to be creative and think of things you could use for each name.
