Easter Games and Ideas

Yesterday I told you I was going Easter Basket shopping. I wanted to share with you what I found. I went to the Dollar Tree to kill time before the Christian bookstore opened. And much to my surprise, they had some great Christian baskets stuffers!
Easter Basket Goodies:
Not pictured: Christian themed playing cards~ Go Fish, Bible Memory Match, and Bible Heroes flash cards
The Dollar Tree also had some cute little games that you play around the table with your child . Or the siblings could play together. I love anything that will bring the kids together to play nicely.
Another basket stuffer that I make is a Bible Verse Memory Booklet. I got this idea form a friend of mine. The boys memorize bible verses every week in Sunday School Class. They also put their favorite verses in there to study. It is a spiral index booklet. I printed out a bible verse, taped it to a scrapbook piece of paper, and taped in on the cover of the booklet.
This is the design I used for my older children. I love these booklets because they are easy to carry, put in their church bags, and keep by their bedside.
Homemade Easter Baskets:
Please excuse the dinginess. These are 5 years old and well worn. As I said in yesterdays post, I am not an artist, nor a sewer. I made these baskets out of determination to get them done by Easter that year(3 days!). But the meaning behind it is what makes this special. I put "The Tomb was Empty" on the inside of the baskets. Its cute when they take all of their Easter goodies out and read that.
Here are two baskets stacked on top of each other for a better view of the sides. I painted He has Risen Matt 28:6 on one side, then their name with crosses on the other. I sewed a scarlet cord for the trim to represent Jesus' shed blood for us.
Easter Egg Hunting and Fun:
When I was growing up, we just hid and hunted Easter eggs. Now, it seems there has to be a piece of candy or coins in all the eggs. I think this is cute, but I do not do this often. Instead, I started the other egg traditions with my kids.
~ I put "He has Risen" on a strip of paper and put it in the egg then hide many eggs. Whoever finds the egg with the verse in it wins,
~ Purchase a 25 piece puzzle. Put a few pieces in each egg. Hide them and let them find them. Then when they are done playing, they can do the puzzle.
~ Write a bible verse, One word per piece of paper. Put in eggs and hide. After they find the eggs, have children work together to put the bible verse in order.
~ Non-messy egg race- We get two teams together. Each team puts a plastic egg on a big spoon and races.
~ Resurrection Eggs- We discuss the meanings of each egg. We do not hide these. These are special eggs. Tomorrow I will have a posting with pictures for these.
