Homemade Laundry Essentials

Aren't they beautiful. The picture isn't too great because of the lightening in that room. (We are remodeling)
Before you get too jealous, we got these on a really good sale!
But they are the HE kind, requiring HE detergent, which is so much more expensive! What that really means is, they use less water so they need less suds. You can use half as much of your regular detergent, but I suggest to just make your own! It's only about $.15 per load! How can you beat that!~

Powdered Laundry Detergent: * Perfect for HE washers!!
1 cup grated* Fels Naptha Soap
1/2 cup washing soda
1/2 cup 20 mule team borax
Mix and store in airtight container or bag. For light or small loads, use 1 tablespoon. For normal loads, use 2 tablespoons. For heavy loads, use 3 tablespoons. (Cost per load is about 15 cents.)
To make a large batch, grate 6 bars of Fels Naptha Soap and then add 3 cups of Washing Soda and 3 cups of 20 Mule Team Borax. Mix well and store in covered container.
* To grate: Put through the grater blade in a food processor.
This recipe will not make suds. The Fels Naptha is a pure soap. You will also notice that your clothes will be much softer, sometimes eliminating the need for the softener.
Liquid Laundry Detergent:
1/3 Fels Naptha, grate or use food processor to grate thinly.
~ Add 6c to big pot and melt soap with water on stove.
1/2 C washing Soda (not baking soda!)
1/2 Borax
4 c hot tap water in large bucket. Add soap and stir.
Laundry or Linen Spray:
1 tsp essential oil
1/4/c witch hazel
1 1/2 c water
Mix and put in spray bottle.
